Blackberry apps get cheaper ahead of Blackberry 10 release

CANADIAN PHONE MAKER Research in Motion (RIM) announced changes to the pricing of its Blackberry World apps on Sunday, ahead of its launch of Blackberry 10 on Wednesday.

This means, basically, that apps for Blackberry smartphones are about to get cheaper. Currently, the lowest priced apps in RIM's app store will set you back £1.00, but this is about to be reduced to 75p.
RIM explained, "Currently, the lowest tier in the UK is £1.00. Once the price tier changes are implemented, the lowest tier will be £0.75. For Euros the tier will vary by country. For example, in France the current lowest tier is €0.99. With the pricing tier changes, the new lowest tier will be €0.89."

"The goal of this adjustment is to ensure prices are in line with currency fluctuations and ensure content within Blackberry World is competitive," the firm added.

This announcement comes just days ahead of the scheduled launch of Blackberry 10, RIM's next generation mobile operating system that it hopes will help it compete against iOS and Android.

However, this price change won't be limited to just RIM's upcoming Blackberry 10 devices, as it also means that apps will cost less on its last generation smartphones too, such as the Blackberry Curve 9320 and Bold 9900. RIM said that the price change will be rolled out automatically, so users won't have to do anything to get cheaper apps.

The INQUIRER will be at RIM's Blackberry 10 launch event on Wednesday.
