PETALING JAYA, Malaysia: NFCorp blames govt for failure

PETALING JAYA (Oct 17, 2012): The National Feedlot Corporation (NFCorp) has blamed the federal government for postponing a project which resulted in the company's failure to meet the required cattle production.

Its chairman Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Salleh said the postponement of the Export Quality Abattoir (EQA) had affected NFCorp's production as a lot of matters were depending on it.

He asked the Attorney-General's Chambers (AGC) to be thorough in its probe into NFCorp's alleged breach of laws.

"The AG should first investigate the breach committed by the Agriculture and Agro-Based Industries Ministry in postponing the construction of the EQA, which is capable of slaughtering 350 cows a day.

"This postponement had an impact on beef production and resulted in the postponement of the constructions of related facilities such as the livestock feed factory and the bio-gas plant. Also postponed was the Entrepreneur Development Programme. All these depended very much on the EQA," he said in a statement today.

It was reported today that the federal government may take civil action against NFCorp to recover the RM250 million soft loan for the failed National Feedlot Centre project.

Mohd Salleh said the charge against NFCorp, which it has denied, must be studied comprehensively to ensure justice for all.

According to the Auditor-General's Report 2011, the Finance Ministry, Agriculture and Agro-Based Industries Ministry and the AGC have held discussions to determine the appropriate action to be taken against NFCorp.

Mohd Salleh said the charge against NFCorp, which it has denied, must be studied comprehensively to ensure justice for all.

"We would like to urge the AG to act fairly and not be swayed by arguments from opposition parties. It should carry out investigation based on facts presented by the auditor-general in the 2010 Report."
